Make way for her royal highness, Queen Purrlean! Purrlean came into Humane Animal Rescue’s care way back in November, and she is ready to move into her new castle! We will care for Purrlean for as long as it takes to find her a home, but sooner is better for this regal gal. If you are interested in adopting Purrlean into your royal court, please come visit her at our East Shelter or contact our adoptions team for more information.

Thank you everybody who came out for the 21st Annual Biscuits Bingo! With the help of Pittsburgh City Police, raised nearly $50,000 that was split between 9 local organizations.

This event raises thousands of dollars every year for each participating animal advocacy agency. The organizations who benefitted from the 21st Annual Biscuits Bingo were Humane Animal Rescue, Angel Ridge Animal Rescue, Animal Friends, Biggies Bullies, Forever Home Beagle Rescue, Hog Heaven Rescue, Homeless Cat Management Team, Pittsburgh Cat, and Rabbit Wranglers.

“It’s amazing how many donations and people support this event” said Ann Yeager, Humane Animal Rescue’s Chief Marketing Officer, “the amount of time and energy Officer Luffey puts into this event truly demonstrates how much she cares about the welfare of animals and the organizations involved.”

Dear Friends,

2018 was a landmark year for Humane Animal Rescue!

We were able to host an unprecedented 24 Hour Spay-A-Thon at our shelter on the East End, providing over 200 free surgeries to cats across the region. Humane Animal Rescue’s collaboration with the ASPCA has allowed for hundreds of dogs every year to be saved from euthanasia or worse in overcrowded shelters in the South. We are also growing our fleet of transport vehicles to increase our reach and ability to collaborate with other agencies, potentially saving thousands more animals every year.

We invested in our North Side Animal Resource Center by upgrading the HVAC in the adoption areas and replacing many rusted doors. We relocated the bunnies to a better space that is much less stress for them. Our lobby area also was remodeled, creating a much easier for customers to access our low cost clinic and adoption areas.

Humane Animal Rescue’s mission is caring for animals, inspiring communities. We care for domestic and wild animals every day at our shelters and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Staff and volunteers do critical outreach at events across the region, engaging the public and educating them on responsibly living with and among animals. As an organization with over 200 years’ worth of combined experience in animal advocacy, my colleagues and I share a great amount of pride in the work we do for all animals. The statistics in this report represent the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and individuals like you. We could not have accomplished any of this without your help, and the numbers speak for themselves. I am pleased to share with you Humane Animal Rescue’s 2018 Annual Report.

On behalf of the animals in need, thank you!

Sincerely,
Dan Rossi, CEO

Humane Animal Rescue continues the legacies of the Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center and the Western PA Humane Society in the form of one organization with enhanced services to benefit the domestic animals and wildlife of our region. We provide all aspects of care to abandoned, neglected, and injured animals; reunite lost pets with their caregivers or seek new families for them; educate the community on humane care and interactions with all animals with the goal of reducing pet overpopulation and negative relationships with native wildlife; reinforce a standard of living for animals and prevent cruelty; and provide assistance and medical care to injured, orphaned, or ill native Pennsylvania wildlife with a goal of returning them to their natural habitat. Our open door policy ensures that no animal is ever refused shelter.
