Old World vs. New World Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc originated in France and is sometimes said to be lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon. At Cheers, we find it unique and delicious. Records of Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux go back to the end of the 18th century. cabernet franc is often blended with other grapes and sometimes enjoyed on its own.
In France, Cabernet Franc is found predominately in the Loire Valley and in the Libournais region of Bordeaux. As of 2000, it was the sixth most widely planted red grape variety in the country.
In the 1980s, California winemakers sparked an interest in Cabernet Franc, which led to an increase in plantings. The main regions which grow Cabernet Franc are Napa and Sonoma counties. Washington State has also cultivated plantings of Cabernet Franc; which is another "New World" location for this variety.
Cabernet Franc pairs nicely with a variety of food. Try it with roast chicken, pork, beef, duck, sausage, lamb, veal, hearty fish dishes and even hard as well as soft cheese.
Friday, Vicki will be pouring an old world Cabernet Franc - La Source du Rualt 2014 Saumur Champigny from France and a new world - Alexander Valley Vineyards from California.

We are excited to announce the arrival of our sixth staff-selected single barrel of Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey! Chosen especially for our customers, this barrel was bottled for Cheers Wines & Spirits. Aromas of brown sugar, bananas and toast. A creamy, rich mouthfeel with flavors of toasted pecans and cooked bananas foster (but not too sweet!). Natural honey and an elegance on the finish. Our staff will have a bottle open in the store ... stop by and ask to taste!
