David Artinian is returning to Facet Foundry with his extensive collection of beautiful gemstones from all over the world! David often travels to remote mining areas to source his gems. This puts him in the middle of the action and allows him to provide the finest gemstones at the best possible prices. All of Davids gemstones are exquisitely cut at his lapidary facility in Thailand. Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald and More!
Most people are surprised to hear that rubiessapphires, and emeralds have been found in North Carolina. They are even more surprised when they learn that there are about a dozen locations in North Carolina where anyone can look for gemstones and keep anything that they find.  Some of the mines and other gem-producing localities are still open, but instead of being mined by a company, they are now mined by people like you. If you want to look for gems yourself, here is a directory of pay-to-dig mines in North Carolina and other states. The mines are very popular and attract thousands of visitors during the summer months. There are more pay-to-dig mines in North Carolina than in any other state in the nation.

Does Your Gemstone Need Some TLC?

Jewelry and gems are meant to be worn and enjoyed.  Over time they can become abraided and loose some of their luster.  Our Lapidary service can restore the beauty of your treasured gem as was done to this beautiful and cherished sapphire.  After repolishing the facets it was set back into it's custom ring to continue being enjoyed by its wearer.

The September Birthstone
Sapphire is a variety of Corundum, a mineral comprised of aluminum oxide and is found in all colors of the rainbow, however red corundum is referred to as Ruby.
Most sapphire is typically heated to fully bring out its color and in order to meet the demand of this highly prized gem.  The treatment is considered permanent and will not change over time.
Sapphire is a very durable gem, being tougher (less likely to chip) than a diamond, but not as hard (resisting scratching) as a diamond.  Sapphire, however is harder than other gemstones other than man made Moissanite.
Sapphires are found all over the world, in Central and Southeast Asia, Australia, Africa, Sri Lanka, China, and in the U.S. (North Carolina and Montana)

Brent and Ben traveled to Cleveland on a buying and educational trip sponsored by IJO, (Independent Jewelers Organization).  Cleveland is a lot of fun!   Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Indians and the Browns, great food, beautiful sunsets on Lake Erie and my favorite, A Christmas Story house, where my favorite movie was filmed.
