| Juvenile diabetes, also known as type 1 diabetes, occurs when your body’s immune system attacks and destroys cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Without insulin, glucose (or sugar) is unable to enter the cells and stays in your bloodstream. High levels of sugar in your bloodstream can lead to other health problems. It is important that you are aware of the signs and symptoms of juvenile diabetes that could affect your child. Common symptoms include increased thirst and urination, fatigue, and weight loss. |
