Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Helene. We did get over 8" of rain, but were fortunate that our homes and stores were spared. We know many folks were not so lucky, and you are in our thoughts.

As tropical storms form into hurricanes out in the ocean, seabirds, shorebirds, waders and even songbirds get caught up in the eye. They move with the storm until the eye wall breaks down and they can disperse. Helene brought a huge number of birds with her, as indicated by the blue dots in the radar circle.
A few dozen rare Magnificent Frigatebirds, a type of seabird found typically over tropical and subtropical waters, were spotted inland. Most were seen Saturday on Lake Lanier and other large lakes, along with several types of terns.
