Fall migration has been exciting these past few weeks. We love to keep up with the forecast on Bird Cast, which shows the nightly movement of migrating birds, often numbering into the millions statewide. As we get into late October and November, the majority of neo-tropical migrants will have moved through and winter residents arrive. Above, are pics of Tennessee (left) and Bay-breasted Warblers (right) that we attracted to our deck with grapes, watermelon and moving water. They have been feeding heavily for the past few weeks, but will depart very soon to head south. Below, are photos of common winter birds that are just arriving. Yesterday, our yard was full of kinglets flitting in the trees. We are hoping this will be a good winter for irruptive Purple Finches, Pine Siskins and Red-breasted Nuthatches.
