Legos, Legos, Legos!
You may have seen the above picture of the Lego Sewing Machine recently on Facebook. When these pretty amazing pictures hit my newsfeed, two things immediately came to mind! First was ... newsletter and second was an almost warm Pumpkin Spice Latte feeling that brought back a flood of Lego memories. Because Legos were introduced to the US in 1973 I was a Sophomore in high school and had not even heard of a Lego Brick. I was much more interested in studying for my learner's permit, finding a job, and girls...not necessarily in that order! My building toy that did precede Legos was a huge metal erector set that came complete with a battery-powered electric motor that propelled cars, trucks and even an elevator that I was able to construct.
As our son, Ben, grew older, he became the Lego marketing gurus' target market -
a role he was happy to fill and he did it well (if you know what I mean)! When Ben grew up and moved out on his own, he left his big plastic tub of Lego bricks behind only to be brought out of mothballs on a few occasions! I actually have a picture, I can't seem to find, of our 2 daughters, their husbands and Ben all sitting on the living room floor working on 5 different Lego projects as adults with big smiles - this before any grandkids!
Now fast forward 11 years later when I shot that picture to now. All 6 of our grandkids love Legos and the big Lego tub is one of the first toys to come out when they are here. I guess there is a third thing that came to mind when I saw that Singer pictured above and that is in the same way when making a quilt you build it one block at a time. Whether a Lego project is the Singer sewing machine, the life-size replica of Chewbacca of Star Wars fame or a simple Lego race car, they all start with one simple block! When quilting whether you are making a very simple or a very complex quilt many start by building one block at a time!
If you are interested in seeing more pictures of the Lego Singer just click on the picture to be taken there.
We sure hope you stop in or shop online to find some new fabrics and or projects that are ready to be built block by block!
Happy Block By Block Quilting!
