September Events!
Hello Fall! We love September because we get to meet a fresh assembly of students new to Pittsburgh and we love being a part of that introduction. There is still time to get in on KU Book Bingo, ending Sept. 30th; we’ve had some great participation so far for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate! Our book club reconvenes on the 17th to discuss Mariano Azuela’s freshly translated The Underdogs, and as usual there will be snacking and sipping! September gave us so many of our favorite authors, from Agatha Christie and Stephen King to Roald Dahl and Shel Silverstein and we will be celebrating them all, wrapping up the month with our Banned Book Week awareness campaign with the help of the American Library Association.
Last but not least we’d like to thank everyone who nominated/voted for us during the Best of Pgh City Paper campaign, winners announced in October!

ManorCare Pittsburgh and Shadyside Celebrate National Rehabilitation Awareness Week
September 17-23 is National Rehabilitation Awareness Week. ManorCare – Pittsburgh and ManorCare – Shadyside are recognizing all of the dedicated rehabilitation professionals at the Centers. Therapists strive every day to improve the quality of life for patients. The goal is to help patients return home to an independent lifestyle. Rehabilitation is essential to developing the right care plan for each individual patient to help them achieve their goals. Many patients are transitioning between the hospital and home and a team of therapists work to help a patient recover or regain strength, mobility, coordination or stamina. A rehabilitation graduate said, “Therapy helped me. If it was not for them, I would not be able to walk like I am now. Boy was I tired after therapy! They are very good. Now I am home.” ManorCare would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the therapists! See the state-of-the-art equipment.
